DENTAL IMPLANT

Dental İmplant

A dental implant is a titanium-based screw-like material that is placed in the jawbone and allowed to fuse with the bone within a few months. A dental implant replaces the root of a missing tooth. In turn, this “artificial tooth root” serves to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. It is the closest treatment to imitate the natural tooth. It does not affect the nearby teeth and has great stability.

The fusion process between the dental implant and the jawbone is called “osseointegration”. Most dental implants are made of titanium, which allows them to integrate with the bone without being recognized as a foreign body in our body. Over time, technology and science have advanced to greatly improve the results of dental implant placement. Today, the success rate of dental implants is close to 98%.

Why do you need a dental implant?

Dental implants can be used instead of a single tooth, several teeth or all teeth. Single tooth bridge or whole jaw prostheses are made according to the region. The purpose of prosthesis in dentistry is to provide function, phonation and aesthetics.

When it comes to tooth replacement, there are usually three options:

Removable dentures (full dentures or partial dentures),
fixed prostheses and implant supported prostheses.
Dentures are a more affordable option for replacement teeth, but they are the least preferred due to the discomfort of a removable appliance in the mouth. Also, dentures can affect a person’s sense of taste and sensory experience with food.

Prior to the relatively recent transition to dental implant treatment, dental bridgework was the more common restorative option. The disadvantage of bridge treatment is the reduction of the abutment teeth. Implants are supported only by bone and do not affect the surrounding natural teeth. Deciding which option to choose depends on many factors. Specifically for dental implants, these factors include:

location of missing teeth,
The quantity and quality of the jawbone where the dental implant will be placed,
the patient’s health, the cost and the patient’s preference …

Choosing an implant in dental treatment has great advantages over other options. Dental implants do not affect the adjacent teeth of missing teeth. Also, because dental implants are integrated into the bone, they are very stable and can have the look and feel of one’s own natural teeth.
